Eligibility for the MasterCard Foundation Scholarship Awards Program
- Demonstrated Academic Excellence: Applicants should have a strong academic record, typically with a minimum GPA requirement.
- Financial Need: Candidates must demonstrate a lack of financial resources to fund their education independently.
- Leadership Potential: The Foundation seeks individuals who exhibit leadership qualities and a commitment to making a positive impact in their communities.
- Diverse Background: The scholarship program prioritizes candidates from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, including refugees, displaced persons, and individuals from underserved communities.
In addition to the eligibility criteria are.
Youth not exceeding 29 years old in the following categories are eligible:
1. Young women
2. Young men
3. Refugees and displaced youth
4. Youth with disabilities

Qualified Students must possess the following qualities before applying:
1. Academic Ability
They must enjoy learning and be self-motivated to finish their education. Must meet the Kenya Commission for University Education’s or its equivalent university admissions requirements.
2. A commitment to giving back
Applicants should demonstrate a dedication to improve their communities by participating in community outreach activities in the past.
3. Leadership Possibilities
Scholars must demonstrate a desire to be change agents, role models, and mentors who practice ethical leadership.
Must be interested in, and meet USIU-admissions Africa’s standards and academic qualifications for, any of USIU-authorized Africa’s 11 undergraduate degree programs, as follows:
- Bachelor of Science in Applied Computer Technology and Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Technology are both offered by the School of Science and Technology (SST).
- Bachelor of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (SPHS);
- Bachelor of Arts in Animation, Bachelor of Arts in Film Production and Directing from the School of Communication, Cinematic and Creative Arts (SCCCA);
- Bachelor of Science in Finance, Bachelor of Science in International Business Administration, and Bachelor of Science in Accounting are all offered at the Chandaria School of Business (CSOB).
- Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS).
